Transplantation Science: Learning About the Science of Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation.

A new school year means new beginnings and new courses! Students and teachers in Colorado and Wyoming are going back to school, which means Donor Alliance is looking forward to inspiring and educating students in its communities through its unique Transplantation Science program. New for the 2024-2025 school year, the curriculum will be offered in Spanish and English!

What is Transplantation Science?

The free curriculum provides 6th to 12th grade students with a hands-on learning experience about the science behind organ and tissue donation for transplantation. It is free for teachers to sign-up to bring it to their classroom. A highly trained educator teach the curriculum, which shows students the types of organs and tissues that can be transplanted and why. Additionally, students learn how organ and tissue donors are matched to transplant recipients. Students are also educated about the decision they will have to make at the DMV when asked, Would you like to register to be an organ, eye, or tissue donor?” Additionally, students will learn about the importance of sharing that decision with their families.

Who can sign up for Transplantation Science?

Any middle or high school teachers in Colorado or Wyoming can have a Transplantation Science class delivered to their students. It doesn’t matter if it’s a private or public school, or even home-school! Transplantation Science has adapted versions of its curriculum to fit the various needs of teachers across our Rocky Mountain region.

How do I sign up?

Transplantation Science

Signing up for Transplantation Science is easy. Teachers with in-person classes can request an educator come to their classroom to teach the course. Teachers who live in small towns or teach in rural districts can sign up to request a traveling trunk with materials and instructions on how to teach the course. A skilled educator can also be available via Google Meet to answer additional questions students may have about donation and transplantation. A digital curriculum is also available for home school or virtual teachers. which offers everything the in-person format offers.
