“Recycle Yourself Colorado” Launches at Denver Comic Con, Shows Young Adults the Possibilities of Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation
Fun and frank campaign includes new website, game and community outreach
Recycle Yourself Colorado, a new initiative to educate 15-25 year old residents about organ, eye and tissue donation in fresh ways, will launch this weekend at the internationally renowned Denver Comic Con. With a quirky and age-appropriate approach, the campaign aims to inspire Colorado millennials to think about donation and transplantation, and encourages them to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.
Recycle Yourself Colorado centers around a new website, www.gorecycleyourself.com/colorado, which features stories from young people who have received transplants or become donors, downloadable art files, a merchandise section with hip t-shirts from American Apparel and a goofy online game, Scalpel Pal.
Recycle Yourself Colorado is sponsored by Donor Alliance, the federally designated nonprofit that facilitates organ and tissue donation in Colorado. The campaign will be promoted through social media and Transplantation Science, Donor Alliance’s school program teaching seventh through 12th graders about the science behind organ, eye and tissue donation.
“Teenagers are often asked about organ, eye and tissue donation for the first time at the driver’s license office when they’re getting their first licenses. We’re launching Recycle Yourself Colorado as another avenue to proactively educate this younger demographic, and encourage them to consider donation ahead of time,” said Jennifer Prinz, chief operating officer of Donor Alliance. “Recycle Yourself Colorado is a complement to our many other communication and education programs in Colorado, but this one speaks the language of today’s young adults. With social media applications, a lighthearted approach and a frank and catchy title, the program aims to show 15-25 year-old residents the awesome possibilities of donation and transplantation.”
Recycle Yourself Colorado will appear in booth 842 at Denver Comic Con June 13-15 at the Colorado Convention Center. The interactive booth will feature a giant prize wheel with Recycle Yourself merchandise and Donate Life goodies, an oversized Operation board game, computer stations where attendees can play Scalpel Pal, Recycle Yourself t-shirts for $10 donations and more.
Recycle Yourself Colorado invites young adults in the state to join the 68 percent of Coloradans who have registered to be organ, eye and tissue donors.
