Staff Spotlight: Carolyn Brinson

In this month’s staff spotlight, meet Carolyn Brinson. Carolyn is an HR Generalist at Donor Alliance and has been part of the team for almost 2 years.

Name: Carolyn Brinson
Position: HR Generalist
Years at Donor Alliance: 1 year 10 months
Tell us a little about your role with Donor Alliance: As a Human Resources Generalist, I help support Donor Alliance staff through new hire onboarding, benefit administration, and working in our HR databases to maintain employee records and reporting—in addition to other projects and tasks.
What do you enjoy most about your role/what’s the most rewarding aspect of your role? When I first started at Donor Alliance, the organ and tissue procurement industry was so new to me. I’m happy I’ve had an opportunity to be a part of the mission that I’ve learned so much about. It gives me satisfaction to know that in some way, I make a difference in my community. More importantly, I get to support our employees who have a direct impact on organ and tissue donation and that has been extremely rewarding.
Tell us about a time at work that really moved you, most moving experience you’ve been a part of: At my first staff meeting, we had a “Connect to Mission” where a donor family talks about their loved one, what ways they were impacted, and how they have become an advocate for donation. I listened to a mother talk about her son in a way that was so endearing and so loving. Her son was a hero and even though she lost him, she had so much admiration for the gifts he gave and the families he helped. She even went as far to name the Donor Alliance employees who supported her through her time of grieving. It was amazing to really understand the impact that was made and the realization that this is Donor Alliances’ sole mission— to save lives!
When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun? When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. Regardless of what we are doing, it’s fun just to be able to interact with each of them, whether that’s all together or one on one. When I’m not with family, I’m generally in my art room, painting or beading while listening to music.
What piece of advice would you give your younger self? I would tell my younger self to not be so hard on yourself and you don’t need to have all of the answers right now. It’s okay to not know what’s next all the time. Learn from your mistakes and appreciate the present.
