Donor Alliance Staff Spotlight, June 2023: Valeria Munchmeyer
We’re so proud to work with each and every one of our staff members here at Donor Alliance. In our Staff Spotlight, we like to take a minute to share who we are and why we work at Donor Alliance. In this month’s staff spotlight, meet Valeria Munchmeyer. Valeria is a Community Engagement Coordinator at Donor Alliance and has been part of the team for almost 1 year.
Meet Valeria in our June 2023 Donor Alliance Staff Spotlight
Tell us a little about your role with Donor Alliance.
My primary role is to engage and educate diverse cultural populations, organizing, promoting, and managing programs associated with increasing the awareness and support of the community; this includes traditional and digital marketing, advertising, media relations, events, and public education.
What do you enjoy most about/what’s the most rewarding aspect of your role?
As a good marketer, what I enjoy most is putting creativity into practice to find efficient ways to communicate, from the creation of the message to how to connect with the community or what experiences to create. The message is intrinsic in everything, from the words and tone we decide to use to the color and design of any material we share, and I love to contribute to that. I also consider myself a people person; part of my job is connecting with people, so I enjoy it!
Tell us about a time at work that really moved you. What’s the most meaningful interaction you’ve had at a Donor Alliance event? Most moving experience you’ve been a part of?
Most moving experience you’ve been a part of? (answer if able) Meeting the organ recipients has been what has moved me the most. Behind every person there is always a story to tell, with ups and downs. And when you know the stories of people who, thanks to a transplant, can continue their lives today, that moves me a lot.
If you change anything about your life, what would you change?
Difficult question, everything that has happened in my life has made me the person I am today in the present. My travels have brought me the most important people in my life. I am so grateful that I wouldn’t change a thing. Even bad decisions and unfortunate moments bring you in the future one or another positive surprise thanks to the learning they give you (if you take it, of course), so I let life surprise me, I try to enjoy the journey.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?
Music is an important part of my life. Something I love about Denver is that there are always good concerts and I don’t hesitate to buy my tickets when a band I like comes, I also play some guitar and I’m learning piano. Photography is my second life; I love storytelling and I’m always spending my savings on equipment! 14 years ago I started photography and I haven’t stopped since!
I love to travel, to know new places, especially if they have a story, are rich in culture or have great landscapes. I met my husband while traveling so we are continuing the adventure of knowing new places!
